Participates in teaching and service activities as appropriate.

Maintains a full-time teaching load, including undergraduate and graduate courses as assigned.

Collaborates with faculty in curriculum development, innovative teaching strategies, and delivery of courses for entry-level degree programs.

Advises and mentors entry-level students, which may include supervising student research and independent study work.

Manages all facets of Athletic Training clinical education experiences, including but not limited to: coordination of student clinical placements; clinical affiliate contracts; clinical site and student evaluations; communication with and coordination of placement with clinical preceptors; development of new and maintenance of existing clinical affiliation partnerships locally, regionally, and nationally.

Pursues scholarship opportunities within area of expertise at a level consistent with University expectations as it relates to non-tenure track appointments.

Be actively engaged in the profession of athletic training and pursue appropriate leadership opportunities.

Maintains both national and state athletic training credentials through the pursuit of appropriate continuing education and self-advancement.

Eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania as an athletic trainer.

A minimum of 2-3 years of clinical experience as an athletic trainer.

Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

A minimum of 2-3 years of higher education teaching experience (preferred).

Preferred: 

Earned doctoral degree in Athletic Training or a related field

Greater than 5 years of clinical experience as an athletic trainer

Experienced educator and/or clinician who possesses a well-rounded skill set that can be applied to a wide range of athletic training topic areas

All faculty within this program are responsible for:

  • Teaching courses in the MSAT program that align with their areas of expertise.

  • Collaborating in team-teaching with other MSAT faculty for course delivery as needed.

  • Mentoring pre-professional and professional phase MSAT students.

  • Assisting with MSAT program design, development, implementation, assessment, and administration.

Engaging in interprofessional education across the RSHS and University.

Engaging in service as appropriate to the program, school, university, and athletic training profession.

Pursuing research and assisting with student scholarly projects at a level consistent with University expectations as it relates to non-tenure track appointments.

The Department of Athletic Training currently offers a 5-year, Master of Science in Athletic Training degree program that strives to facilitate the development of our students to be evidence-driven, patient-oriented athletic training professionals who are prepared for the ever-changing healthcare market. The Department of Athletic Training is housed in the John G. Rangos, Sr., School of Health Sciences along with the departments of Physical Therapy, Health Administration/Health Sciences, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, Engineering, and Speech Language Pathology, as well as a PhD program in Rehabilitation Science. Duquesne University faculty are expected to strive for academic and scholarly excellence, while demonstrating a commitment to service.

The University is located on a private, 44-acre campus, which overlooks the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
