Job Summary:

The Fitness Trainer is our fitness ambassador and a key member of the Planet Fitness team. This individual is largely responsible for the member experience in club, particularly the successful execution of the PE@PF Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Member Training

  • Design individual exercise programs for each member based on their exercise experience, medical background, and personal goals. 
  • Train Planet Fitness members during PE@PF small group training sessions. 
  • Submit all training programs and workout logs to the supervisor for review. 
  • Log training session attendance data into the Datatrak system. 
  • Track and record PE@PF success metrics. 
  • Monitor the primary workout areas to make sure that members are using the equipment appropriately.
  • Develop and implement exercise programs that are safe, effective, and appropriate for individuals who are apparently healthy or have medical clearance to exercise. 
  • Conduct health history interviews in order to determine the need for referral and to identify any contraindications for exercise. 
  • Assist members in setting and achieving realistic fitness goals. 
  • Teach correct exercise form and technique, including progressions and regressions, through demonstration, explanation, and proper cueing and spotting techniques. 
  • Empower individuals to begin and adhere to their exercise programs using guidance, support, motivation, lapse-prevention strategies, and effective feedback. 
  • Design structured exercise programs for individuals and small groups. 
  • Educate members about fitness- and health-related topics, to help them in adopting healthful behaviors that facilitate exercise program success. 
  • Protect member confidentiality according to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and related state and federal laws. 
  • Refer members to other healthcare professionals when appropriate.
  • Customer Service/Front Desk Activities
  • Greet members and guests, provide exceptional customer service in a way that makes members feel comfortable and welcomed.
  • Answer phones in a friendly manner and professionally assist callers.
  • Check members in, give tours and sign up new members, log amenities and communicate updates and events to members and guests.
  • Respond to member questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Conduct beverage and merchandise purchases on the POS system.
  • Exceed the minimum required daily statistics.
  • Assist in emergency medical situations as per training.
  • Uphold rules and policies in the facility.

Member Accounts

  • Utilize POS system to assist with new membership cards, change of address and billing or payment questions.
  • Properly submit refund requests.
  • Check member into fitness classes using Datatrak systems.
  • Create new memberships and guest accounts for members.
  • Uphold integrity and security with member documents and sensitive information at all times.

Club Cleanliness and Maintenance

  • Perform regular facility cleaning and upkeep such as mopping up spills, re racking weights, and picking up trash.
  • Perform regular cleaning of assigned fitness equipment.
  • Stock supplies as necessary.
  • Inspect all equipment for possible malfunction or damage and report findings to the appropriate individual(s).
  • Inspect AED equipment.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Must have a NCCA accredited trainer certification (example: AEC or NCSF)
  • Must be CRP/AED certified
  • Passion for health and fitness
  • Uphold core values of Planet Fitness at all times by upholding the beliefs of teamwork, positivity, integrity, passion and accountability
  • Ability to handle emergency situations as per training.

Physical Demands

  • Visible and continuous activity during shift
  • Continual talking in person or on the phone to members during shift
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Frequent climbing, balancing, kneeling and crouching during shift
  • Frequent cleaning of equipment and facilities
