Position Purpose: As a Sommelier, you will be responsible for curating and managing the wine selection/menu to enhance our guests’ dining experience. You will assist customers in selecting the perfect wine to complement their meals, maintain the wine inventory, and contribute to the overall success of our establishment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Exhibit extensive worldwide knowledge of wines and wine regions and impart that knowledge to associates and guests.
  • Develop and update the wine list, considering both popular and unique offerings.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting guests in choosing wines that suit their preferences and complement their meals.
  • Conduct wine tastings and educate customers on the different aspects of wine.
  • Train and educate restaurant staff on wine service and sales techniques regularly to enhance their knowledge on wine offerings and pairings.
  • Conduct monthly inventory and revise all wine and beverage lists, as needed, maintaining them in first-class condition.
  • Work with Executive Chef and Special Event Coordinator on food pairings for special menus.
  • Plan and organize wine events, tastings, and promotions to attract and engage customers.
  • Conduct periodic wine and spirits seminars to educate staff

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the hotel.
  • Staying abreast of the latest trends in both the culinary, and wine and spirits world.
  • Cultivating relationships with distributors and vintners.
  • Provide recommendations to other outlets based on expertise.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of wine and spirits and food pairings
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language sufficient to communicate to guests and staff.
  • Ability to learn property-specific software and point of sale systems including but not limited to ProfitSage, Uptown Network (iPad wine list), Micros, FoodTrak, TimeSaver, etc
  • Knowledge of fine dining operations and service standards, especially those standards specific to Seagar’s.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Education: Bachelor’s degree Preferred Experience: Previous experience in Fine Dining Restaurant Licenses or certificates: Level Two Sommelier Certification.
