Position Highlights

The Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques (SALT) Center is a nationally recognized program that provides a wide range of academic supports to more than 650 undergraduates with learning and attention challenges at the University of Arizona. The program relies primarily on a fee-for-service revenue model. The individual in this position provides direct weekly support to University of Arizona students enrolled in the SALT Center. Working with students who have a wide range of needs, this position builds student capacity to independently manage the direct and indirect impact of learning and attention challenges in a large university environment. Working closely with academic and clinical support colleagues, this position helps students work toward independence and long-term self-management of learning and attention challenges. Professional service and scholarly practice are core expectations of this role. The individual in this position will demonstrate a commitment to, and knowledge of best practices for, inclusive student excellence. The individual will also have a deep knowledge of best practices for retention and undergraduate success. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide weekly, individualized direct support for SALT Center students.

  • Strengthen their capacity to independently manage the direct and indirect impact of learning and attention challenges while at UA.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with students and families while maintaining confidentiality.

  • Timely and accurately manage associated data, compile and present relevant reports/recommendations.

  • Comply with all legal requirements associated with student data.

  • Actively participate in efforts to continually evaluate and improve student support services.

  • Work closely with Learning Support and Clinical staff to offer seamless experience for students, particularly those who are experiencing significant academic, emotional, or behavioral challenges.

  • Contribute to SALT Center’s strategic plan through scholarly practice and professional service.

  • Lead at least one approved project that strengthens SALT Center’s position with students, stakeholders, and/or as a thought leader in the field.

  • Proficiency in planning, implementing, and evaluating approved effort.

  • Effectively represent the SALT Center to UA partners and external stakeholders as directed.

  • Model exemplary verbal and non-verbal communication without appreciable direction.

  • Utilize university systems with excellent proficiency, demonstrating knowledge and effective interactions with other colleges and the University as a whole.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge and application of principles, theories, and concepts associated with undergraduates who learn differently.

  • Experience with high volume case management in an educational or social services setting.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills in high-stress situations, particularly relative to learning and attention challenges as well as academic study skills.

  • Ability to support and collaborate with colleagues to effectively manage challenging situations.
  • Successful experience in organizational management and administration.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (e.g., Special Education, Higher Education, Social Work, etc.)

  • 3+ years of direct experience working with students who have learning and attention challenges in a secondary or higher education setting.

  • Any equivalent combination of education and related experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in a related field or enrolled in related graduate program highly preferred.
  • 5+ years of direct experience in higher education.
