Job Description

We Are:

Data Society provides the highest quality, instructor-led, industry-tailored data and AI training programs for Fortune 1,000 companies and federal, state, and local governmental organizations. We partner with our clients to educate, equip, and empower their workforces with the skills they need to achieve their goals and expand their impact. We are powering the workforces of the future, from data literacy for all employees to support for data engineers and data scientists to train up on the most complex AI solutions and Machine Learning skills. Our training is practical and tactical—we use real data sets, highly tailored examples, and capstone projects—to tie virtual classroom learning with real-life business problems and drive results for our clients and their employees.

The Role:

As a UX Designer on the Data Society solutions team, you will help build custom data-centric applications for our customers. You will work directly with them to uncover their goals and transform them into usable, accessible, highly functional interactive experiences.

This is a customer-facing role. We expect you to have several years of experience working directly with users and stakeholders to conduct user research, gather requirements, create and test wireframes and clickable mockups, and gather data after a product is in use.

You will work closely with our development team as products based on your work are built, answering questions and iterating your designs as needed. You should understand basic HTML and CSS, and while coding experience is not required, a solid understanding of how web technologies like single page React apps, APIs, and Databases work and how that affects your designs is.

We are an agile environment, you should be comfortable with concepts like scrums, sprints, story refinement and demo days.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of professional full time experience as a UX Designer for web applications.
  • Experience conducting UX Research with customers.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates multiple full projects, from research through creation to post-production analysis.
  • Your portfolio can be shared privately if you can’t provide it on a public website.
  • This role may handle sensitive information, you will be required to pass a U.S. federal government Public Trust level 4 background check.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead UX discovery sessions and other research activities for new projects.
  • Create UX artifacts like user stories, personas and customer journeys.
  • Create low-fidelity clickable wireframes, present them to customers for feedback, and test them with representative future users.
  • Write functional requirements from your user stories and wireframes with product managers and developers.
  • Create high-fidelity clickable mockups, present them to customers for feedback, and test them with representative future users.
  • Work closely with the development team to answer design questions and create or change designs as needed. We operate on the principle that the fastest way to solve an engineering problem is often design, and the fastest way to solve a design problem is often engineering.

Skills you bring:
  • You are very experienced with Figma. We use it for our design work.
  • You have some experience in Adobe products like Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • You understand usability and how to create web products that are visually appealing but also intuitive.
  • You have significant experience with accessibility, and how to design for it. We strive for full 508 and WCAG compliance.
  • You have experience in responsive design, and how to create designs that work well at any screen size.
  • You can communicate professionally with customers and users while gathering requirements and testing designs.
  • You have at minimum a basic understanding of HTML and CSS, and how they are used to turn designs into web pages and applications.
  • Experience with JavaScript and React are considered strong pluses. This role isn’t required to write code, but knowing how your designs will be built is always helpful, as is being able to write or edit code yourself.
  • You will need to be able to open Visual Studio, pull the latest code from our repo, and run it locally so you can help check how your designers were implemented. Basic familiarity with how Git and branches work is a strong plus.
Salary will be between $90,000-$110,000. In addition, this position will be eligible for full benefits including Unlimited PTO, Healthcare Insurance, 401k, Metro Transit subsidy, Paid Parental Leave, and Paid Disability – all on Day 1.
